Travel Bags Wholesale: Sourcing Weekender, Duffel & Toiletry Bags from China
Published: 2026-08-26 | 10 min read
Travel bags - weekenders, duffels, and toiletry kits - are a staple category for retailers, airlines, and gift programs. For importers the play is material durability plus landed-cost discipline across sea freight. This guide covers formats, materials, features, and how to source travel bags from China.
Travel Bag Formats
Weekender and duffel share a soft holdall silhouette; toiletry kits pair with them. For bulk import the fundamentals are in our China bag import guide.
Materials for Durability
- Ballistic nylon / polyester. Abrasion-resistant and light.

Features That Sell

- Reinforced base. Holds shape when set down.
- Detachable strap. Crossbody option for weekenders.

What features add value to travel bags?
A shoe compartment, reinforced base, and detachable crossbody strap are the features buyers notice most.
What MOQ applies to travel bags?
Moderate - pilot 200-500 pieces; scale by sell-through once the format and material are validated.
Buyer's decision brief: Travel bags wholesale
On the commercial side, Travel bags wholesale spans school, commute, travel and corporate gifting, and each segment has a different price ceiling and set of expectations. Corporate gifting tolerates a higher unit price for better finishing; school and promotional volumes demand aggressive cost control. Decide which segment you are serving before requesting quotes, because the same outline can be built at very different price points.
Backpacks are a functional product, and buyers return them for functional reasons: strap discomfort, failed zips, and laptop sleeves that do not actually fit the stated screen size. For Travel bags wholesale, the spec that matters most is the load path — how weight travels from the shoulder straps through the webbing into the body panel. Reinforced bar-tacking at the strap base and a properly padded back panel cost a little more and remove most of the failure modes.
What buyers actually need from Travel bags wholesale
Buyers in this category are usually outfitting travellers, tour operators, airlines or outdoor retailers, so the product is judged on how it behaves when fully loaded and roughly handled.
| Category specification | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Capacity | 20–40 L for cabin · 40–70 L for checked |
| Fabric | 600D/900D polyester · nylon · RPET · TPU laminate |
| Hardware | Branded zips · trolley sleeve · compression straps |
| MOQ | Custom 100 pcs · ready stock from 1 pc |
Specification points that decide quality
- Load-bearing points: handles, shoulder strap roots and trolley sleeves must be bar-tacked, not just stitched.
- Abrasion resistance on the base panel — this is where travel bags fail first.
- Water resistance: coated fabric or a TPU laminate for anything sold as a dry or outdoor bag.
- Zip specification matters more here than anywhere else; unbranded zips are the top failure cause.
Two checks before you approve bulk
- Fill the bag to rated capacity and carry it — check strap comfort and shape retention.
- Cycle every zip 30–50 times under light tension before approving bulk.

Mistakes buyers make with Travel bags wholesale
- Quoting a laptop size that the sleeve does not actually accommodate.
- Skipping bar-tack reinforcement at the shoulder strap base.
- Using unbranded zips on a bag that will be carried daily.
- Under-specifying foam density on straps — comfort complaints drive returns.
